Rember LOVE

Those who know me best know that I can not remember anything. For some reason I was not blessed with one of those minds that can recall things in an instant. Instead I struggle to remember things from day to day. As a result I have been forced to develop systems for myself to remember what I am doing. I constantly set reminders for myself and write things down.

Of those reading, several of you are like me in this sense. You set reminders, keep lists, and constantly seek to find ways to remember what it is you need to do. How many times does Love make it on the list? What kinds of reminders do you have to remind yourself to love?

About a year ago my wife and I did the typical Atlanta tourist thing and went to dinner at the Hard Rock CafĂ©. When we were looking through the menu I stumbled on a picture that I found to be very intriguing. It simply read, “Remember Love.” Beneath the picture was a brief explanation of it. Apparently John Lennon hand wrote the words and hung them in his bed-in.

Lennon’s words inspired me. Shortly after seeing this in the Hard Rock’s menu I decided that I needed a similar reminder in my life. Since I need help remembering everything else, I figured it would be smart for me to have a reminder to love. As a result, I went to my office, scribbled the words, "Remember Love" on a piece of paper, framed it and hung it above my door. Some time after that my I had my wife paint a watercolor of a heart with wings and a banner that reads, “Remember Love.” This painting serves as a constant reminder me and others to love.

My wife and I have lots of reminders for love set up for our family. If you were to come into our living room you would see on the mantle the words Live and Love. Alicia tattooed live and love on her wrists. I tattooed a red rose (a symbol of love) on my right arm. Alicia buys clothes for our kids that have the word "love" on it. My salutation on my letters and e-mails is “Remember Love.” Alicia’s is “Love Wins.” Each of these serves as a reminder for me and my family to constantly think about and live love.

I want the love to always be at the forefront of my mind. As a result I have set up reminders and signs to keep me focused on it. If you don’t already have reminders for yourself I encourage you to do so. Write “Love” down and hang it in your home or office. Buy t-shirts and clothes that say "love" on them. Change your desktop on your computer to read “love.” There are so many ways you can set reminders for yourself. If you haven't already, set one today.

The best part of setting reminders for yourself is others will see the reminders and be moved as well. I can not tell you how many people have commented on my “Remember Love” painting. If we really want to change the world we live in for the better, what better way than to remind others to love. I believe that if we could do more to bring love to the forefront of people minds that people would actually begin to love each other more and the greater society would be affected as a result.

Friends, join me on my journey to live love and lead others to do the same. Let me know if you set up a reminder for yourself and others. I would love to know what creative things everyone came up with. Remember LOVE.

Ten months ago Danny and I started writing on our bathroom wall. We write scriptures, quotes, anything to remind us of God's faithfulness. One day, when I was feeling particularly feisty, I wrote LOVE in huge letters. Underneath I added the reminder I so needed: "Is not easily angered!"
